Views of the Hudson River and New York Harbor, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the New Jersey shoreline, the Esplanade is a pedestrian paradise. Gardens line the entire route, along with public art installations at the intersections of Albany, Rector and West Thames streets.

With its imposing tower and handsome high-pointed windows, St-Janskerk is a fine illustration of the Gothic style, mostly dating from the fifteenth century. Inside, almost everything is on the grand scale, from the massive pulpit and the whopping organ through to two large and unusual canons pews.
